At a 2 day assembly ...the point that the brother spoke about that drove me mad....."don't hug your husband, wife or child during prayer".
by crazy2try ini attended one day of a two day assembly and did ok until the very last talk.
the brother was from bethal and well jw's pay closer attention to their talks, cause that is when some new info is given,,,right.
well anyways i lost focus and began to daydream, cause it became one of those talks that just talks about wasting time.

I have a question for you all......
by its_me! inmy sister visited me a few months ago, and she was on a holy roller, 'save my soul' kick.
she told me that i needed to get back to the meetings because armageddon was so near.
i told her that if i serve jehovah, it will not be because i am afraid of dying at armageddon, it will be because i love him and have a personal relationship with him.

What's worse is when they sprinkle it with emotional blackmail & say things like: "What will your grandfather think if he's resurrected in the new system & you aren't there to greet him?"
When you really think about it, it's pretty evil that people are being driven to say things like that. I don't blame the people who say it though. I blame the fuckers in charge of the cult, it's they who put the evil thoughts in the heads of the R&F.

How To Construct a Creationist/Theistic Argument
by darkl1ght3r inhow to construct a creationist/theistic argument - by ben spencer.
step 1. come up with a supposed self-apparent, universal, unbreakable, and yet ultimately unprovable "law".. for example:.
all effects require a cause.

does he choose to just multiply numbers together he pulls out of his arse while he conveniently forgets nature is governed by physical laws?
Amen, when i first read the Watchtower's publications that took on 'evolution', they used just such an argument against abiogenesis, it was the only thing in the book that i found convincing. But then i was only about 10 at the time! Once i learnt that abiogenesis was about chemical reactions, governed by nuclear, electromagnetic & thermodynamic forces, the whole thing fell apart. The probability argument is laughable when you consider how nature actually works. And even more laughable (not to mention just plain baffling) when you realise that the numbers are literally pulled out of thin air. All they do is find out how many atoms there are in the universe (an unknown number in itself, so they probably get that number from thin air as well), then pick a number slightly higher than that & just hope that it convinces people. Which unfortunately it does, as there are lots of naive 10 year olds out there who are ready to hoover up whatever garbage they spew out.
Mind you, i say "the Watchtower's publications", but it's not like they're actually written by the Watchtower, most of the arguments in their publications (including the probablity arguments) are simply stolen from other creationist sources, like the ID Institute. Ha, institute? Institution more like!

There are valid points from all who debate this subject, i agree. The only difference is that SOME theists seem to be under the impression that their points carry more weight than they actually do. Most atheists know that they can't prove God doesn't exist. But SOME theists seem to think that atheists are at fault for not being able to do so. And a minority (well, i hope for the sake of human sanity that it's a minority) seem to think that the inablity of atheists to disprove God's existence is in & of itself evidence that He exists.

I remember standing there once & suddenly realising that i was stood in a room with a bunch of people, all standing with our eyes closed, listening to someone talk to his imaginary friend. It made me want to cry more than laugh though.

Encounter with JW's take two...
by highdose inmy doorbell rang about 30mins ago, standing out side was a 30 somthing man and a very very young boy.
the young boy mumbled and stuttered and limply waved about a awake magazine at me.
i told him i wasn't interested because his religon had a bigger child abuse problem than the cathloic church, the difference is jw's cover it up better.

BTS (may i just called BS?), if you'd actually read the statement which you just quoted, you'd see that my hang up is anti-atheists, not theists. I have no problem with theists who keep their religion to themselves. It's those who look down on me for rejecting their beliefs which i (as i stated) have a problem with. And you are 'clearly' one of them.

What exactly do Jehovah's Witnesses believe?
by chashathaway ini hear a lot, both on this forum and elsewhere, about all kinds of things jehovah's witnesses believe.
but i've never felt that outsiders were a good source of information about what faithful watchtowers actually believe.
in fact, i've discovered that the worst source of information about a religion is from those who were members but left the faith.

I have questions, but I don't want to hear all the reasons a belief is ridiculous. I want to hear it from the source. I don't want the unbiased response. I want the response that is bias in favor of the religion - if that's not too much to ask.
